What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way of delivering regularly changing web content. Content on websites is syndicated using an RSS feed.
Why is RSS useful?
It’s an easy way to keep informed about updates to a website or websites without having to continually visit the site(s) you’ve taken the feed(s) from. You can choose to subscribe to selected RSS feeds and keep up-to-date only on subjects that interest you.
What do I need to read an RSS feed?
News reader software allows you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read, use and store on your own computer. There are a number available for the major operating systems, including Newz Crawler and Feed Demon (Windows) and Newsfire and NetNewsWire (Mac). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available – such as My Yahoo!, Netvibes and Google Reader – which let you read the feeds from any computer with an internet connection. And you can bookmark RSS feeds using modern browsers such as Firefox and Safari.
So what do I do next?
After choosing a news reader, all you have to do is click on the orange RSS icon on any page for which you want to receive the feed. Then either drag the address of the feed into your news reader or copy and paste it into your news reader.
