Marina Run 2009 - A Family Affair

The 1st edition of the 5K Marina Run, organized by the RRA in co-operation with the Veterans Club, took place on 18 January 2009. The course was fast and flat along the coast road between Dora and Dbayeh, and we were lucky that the rain held off. The first male runner, Hussein Awada (Lebanese Army), arrived in the amazing time of 15m 42s. The women’s field was sadly depleted due to sickness, and Noha Beydoun (RRA) coasted in to an easy victory at 21m 38s. A total of eighty-six runners completed the course within the 45 minutes allocated. |

We were happy to welcome back a regular and enthusiastic female runner, Didi Sabbagh, who made an impressive comeback after an absence of over 6 months, coming 1st in Cat F10 (55-59). |

At the finish line each runner received a commemorative T-Shirt and healthy breakfast of fruit, juice, and water. Red Bull kindly provided the finish arch and handed out cans of drinks. The awards ceremony took place at Club La Marina, Dbayeh, where the Managing Director, Nicole Baz, made us feel very welcome. The men’s and women’s 1st overall received trophies, and medals were awarded for the 1st three in each age category. We received several comments praising the organisation of the race and would like to thank all those who contributed to the success. |
