History

The Road Running & Athletics Club was founded by Lebanese runner Roger Bejjani. In 2002, he took part in a 14K training race in Kfardebian organised by Maxime Chaaya, the famous Lebanese who has conquered so many summits including Everest. Roger was overwhelmed with the naked and moonlike nature of the mountains and the the grandiosity of the surroundings, and the idea of organizing a super race there started haunting him.

Being completely ignorant about race organization, Roger asked Maxime and the Beirut Marathon Association for help. Since they were busy challenging nature and in organizing the first edition of the Beirut International Marathon respectively, they both declined. In August 2003, Roger decided to do it single-handedly.

Quickly he familiarized himself with the rules of the game and, together with Tadamon Sour, a Lebanese Athletics Federation (LAF) member, organized and financed the first edition of the Kfardebian race. In parallel, Roger applied for the formation of an athletic club: Inter-Lebanon Road Running & Athletics Club, more popularly referred to as Inter-Lebanon, which became affiliated to the LAF in June 2004.

Since then the Kfardebian race, justly labelled “Mother of All Races” as it is a crucifying international half-marathon (21.1K), has been organized by Inter-Lebanon 6 years in a row. In 2011, we will be organizing the 7th edition of this classic, which has become our most popular race.
